Seen Behind the Scene

It’s the dawn of another busy day,

As it is, in the Colombo city everyday.

The buses are crowded, the streets are blocked,

The struggle of another day has just started.

At the next moment, got on to the bus,

A middle aged fellow with a familiar face,

He rolled his sleeve up, and repeated his story

Of the nerve operation, which made me worry

And support him with a coin, now three years back,

Yes of course, they have too started their work!

“Don’t help him, he’s a drug addicted”,

I recalled how once a conductor advised

The passengers, when he’s gone.

Then in the next junction,

Again a frequently seen face of a youth,

Whose mother to be done a bypass “Next Month”,

Distributed a piece of paper without a word,

As he has done for the last two years’ period.

Poor fellows, no doubt,

Both materially and spiritually, but,

Not just beggars, yet professional ones!

Until we support them with coins and notes,

I’m sure, nothing will be changed,

Than the addition of some new faces to the field,

In the next few years to come.

By the time, you’ll be really lucky,

If happen to contribute someone,

In this big commercial city,

Who is really in need of your help.
