The event was open for everyone in the Faculty of Arts to take part in drawing, and an impressive number of students and staff members (academic and non-academic) participated in the activity.

The objectives of the Art Festival was to promote appreciation of good art, to protect and respect university property and environment, and to promote teamwork and goodwill among UCSSA members, students, and staff members of the Faculty of Arts.

Everyone present at the event had the opportunity to express their taste and appreciation of art through a vote in selecting the three most attractive drawings. A large amount of enthusiastic students and staff members voted for their favourite drawings. Thus, Miss. Thilini Withanachchi won the first place with 98 votes. Miss. K. A. S. Hasangani was placed second with 88 votes. Mr. G. Rajapaksha secured the third place with 48 votes. The winners received certificates and exciting prizes, and all participants were awarded valuable certificates.

The event featured two guest lectures by professional artists Mr. Prasanna Ranabahu and Mr. Bandu Manamperi who shared their valuable insights on the theme ‘Appreciation of Art’.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Indralal De Silva appreciated the fact that the Art Festival was a unique and new experience as it highlighted the talent of our very own university students and staff. The Head of the Department of Sociology, Prof. Sasanka Perera noted that the Art Festival contributed to make the day a special one for the Department of Sociology, and praised the event for being held at a time when university students are generally criticized for not engaging in creative work. Achinthya Bandara, a fourth year student of the Faculty of Arts, who took part in drawing, mentioned that the team work and passion of the UCSSA was appreciated by a lot of people, and that they wished there had been more time to spend with the guest lecturers, Mr. Ranabahu and Mr. Manamperi.

Everyone present at the Art Festival was treated to an abundance of ice cream. The crowd was entertained by a dance performed by UCSSA members Mathishani Dissanayake, Nilukshi Samdin, Chamalie Gunawardana, and Kaushalya Chandrasekaram.
